Icy Teardrops

Icy Teardrops (translation of “Gefrorne Tränen” by Wilhelm Müller from Schubert’s “Winterreise” song cycle)

These icy tears are rolling
Down my frostbitten cheeks:
And no sweet voice consoling
To what my ache bespeaks.
To what my ache bespeaks.

Oh teardrops, my teardrops,
And if you only knew
That you’ll freeze to crystal
Like icy morning dew!

Upsurging from the wellspring
The heart that beats so nice
As if you’d simply melt away
The whole damn winter’s ice!
This whole damn winter’s ice!

Upsurging from the wellspring
The heart that beats so nice
As if you’d simply melt away
The whole damn winter’s ice!
This whole damn winter’s ice!
